Her
Story

For three decades I have worked with children, young people and families facing some of the most complex emotional, developmental and mental health difficulties. Throughout my career, including more than twenty-one years as an NHS Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, alongside my work as a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist, educator and safeguarding leader, I have repeatedly been reminded that behind every diagnosis is a person, behind every child is a family, and behind every crisis is a story waiting to be understood.

My work is founded on a simple belief: lasting change happens when we move beyond symptoms and begin to understand the whole person within the context of their relationships, development, life experiences and strengths.

I combine contemporary psychiatric practice with psychodynamic psychotherapy, developmental neuroscience, attachment theory, trauma-informed care and systemic thinking. Rather than asking only «What is wrong?», I also ask «What has happened?», «What matters?» and «What might this person need in order to flourish?»

Over three decades I have assessed and supported thousands of children, adolescents and families, including those with anxiety disorders, autism, ADHD, school attendance difficulties, emotional dysregulation, trauma, depression, obsessive-compulsive difficulties, PTSD, and complex developmental and family presentations.

Alongside my clinical practice, I remain deeply committed to education, professional development and improving the way mental health services understand children, young people and families. My work increasingly focuses on helping systems become more compassionate, more psychologically informed and more connected through initiatives such as Think Family – Whole Family and Rehumanising Psychiatry.

Whether I am meeting a family in clinic, teaching professionals or advising organisations, my aim remains the same: to help every child, young person and family feel genuinely understood, because I believe that understanding is where meaningful and lasting change begins.
