Understanding people
Clinical Practice
Psychiatric assessment, psychotherapy and specialist consultation for children and young people – and psychodynamic psychotherapy, couples work and coaching for adults. Understanding the whole person, before any diagnosis.
APPROACH
«My role is not simply to provide a diagnosis or recommend treatment. It is to help you make sense of the bigger picture.»
Seeking help for your child or family can feel overwhelming. Many parents come to me after months — or sometimes years — of trying to understand what is happening. They may have spoken to schools, GPs, therapists or other professionals, yet still feel that important pieces of the puzzle are missing. Young people often arrive feeling exhausted by trying to explain experiences that are difficult to put into words.
Every assessment begins with careful listening. I want to understand not only the difficulties that have brought you to see me, but also the child’s development, relationships, strengths, personality, family life, education and wider experiences. Understanding how these different pieces connect often provides clarity that individual symptoms alone cannot.
My approach combines the expertise of contemporary child and adolescent psychiatry with psychodynamic psychotherapy, developmental neuroscience, attachment theory, trauma-informed care and systemic thinking. This enables me to consider both the biological and psychological aspects of emotional wellbeing, while never losing sight of the child or young person as a unique individual within a family and community.
Some families come seeking diagnostic clarification, while others are looking for a deeper understanding of anxiety, school attendance difficulties, emotional regulation, autism, ADHD, trauma, mood difficulties or complex developmental presentations. Others simply know that something is not quite right but cannot yet explain why.
Whatever brings you to my practice, the aim is always the same: to develop a thoughtful formulation that makes sense of what you and your child have been experiencing and to work collaboratively towards meaningful, evidence-informed recommendations that are practical, realistic and tailored to your family’s needs.
Where appropriate, this may include psychiatric assessment, psychodynamic psychotherapy, neurodevelopmental assessment, medication, family consultation, school guidance or collaboration with other professionals involved in your child’s care. Every recommendation is carefully considered, openly discussed and adapted to your individual circumstances.
I believe that good mental healthcare should never leave families feeling confused or overwhelmed. My hope is that you leave each consultation with greater understanding, a clearer sense of direction and renewed confidence in the next steps ahead.
Whether we are meeting for an initial assessment, ongoing therapy or specialist consultation, my commitment is to provide a space where curiosity replaces judgement, collaboration replaces uncertainty, and understanding becomes the foundation for lasting change.
